Why Kevin Durant likes to play through the busy Suns schedule

For some it is difficult to play 11 games in 19 days, but not for some Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant. After Wednesday’s 108-84 win over the Brooklyn Nets, she marked one more game during those 19 days. After Durant has fired back at criticism of his longevitythis is another perfect example of that.

He has played every game so far during that period. Furthermore, he explained to AZCentral’s Duane Rankin, Fr his philosophy for the Suns’ busy schedule.

“I wish our record was better, obviously, you want to win every game, but that’s why I love this part of the year,” Durant said. “It’s just non-stop games.” You don’t get much exercise. Not much time to delay. Game, day off, game and I love that part.

“Every other night is a game.” End of January, February right before the break is the most difficult time for many teams in this league. If you can get through this pretty solid, healthy, in good shape, you can have a solid second half of the season.”

During this stretch, the Suns also endured their longest road trip of the season. The five-game road trip took them to Atlanta, Washington DC, Detroit, Cleveland and finally Brooklyn. Both D.C. and Brooklyn were coming home for Durant, the latter happening on Wednesday. They were 3-2 in this stretch and want to keep improving.

Fortunately for Phoenix, Durant played 16 seasons in the NBA. He understands that establishing a rhythm is the key to keeping his body and mental health in check. Also, as Durant mentioned, playing in late January and February is one of the toughest times for teams.

They are trying to establish their position in the playoffs as well as decide the fate of their season. Some will wave the white flag, some will continue to push for the playoffs, and some are already there. During this part, there was some research about the team. for example, Durant revealed the missing piece for the Suns in Monday’s embarrassing loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He emphasized that they do not have a package of zonal violations. Meaning, they don’t have a game plan to attack a zone defense. However, with the Suns busy schedule, there may not be enough time to develop certain offenses for a certain defensive set they might see.

Regardless, Phoenix has some catching up to do. They sit on 22-21 and over .500. Plus, they’re in a hotly contested Western Conference. If they go on a winning streak, just three games can determine 10th and 4th place. Still, Durant embraces the hectic nature of the NBA.

Phoenix seems to be rallying around it as best it can. Luckily, they’ll be back in Arizona to take on the Washington Wizards on Saturday. They will get some rest before returning to the thick of NBA action.
