The Warriors’ Jonathan Cuminga will miss at least three weeks with an ankle injury
Warriors forward Jonathan Cumminga sprained his right ankle on Saturday night and is expected to be re-evaluated in three weeks, it said report from Athletics on Sunday.
Kuminga was injured in the closing minutes of the first half Golden State’s 121-113 win over the Memphis Grizzlies when he tried to block a shot and landed awkwardly. He will undergo an MRI scan.
Kerr said Kyle Anderson he will play more minutes in Kuminga’s absence.
“It’s not going to be an everyday thing, it was a significant sprain,” Kerr said. “We only have a report tomorrow.”
Kuminga entered the game as the Warriors’ second-leading scorer Stephen Curryaveraged 16.9 points but was limited to 13 points over 15 minutes.
“It’s going to be tough. JK has been playing the best basketball of his career the last few weeks, so we’re going to miss him,” Kerr said. “But Kyle will fill in well.”
Anderson played 21 minutes and had seven points, three assists and three rebounds. His playing time has been inconsistent, but Anderson is eager for his opportunity.
“I’ve already done my job by not playing as much as I’ve practiced and been ready, so it’s just a matter of going out there and playing basketball,” Anderson said, noting he’s been in similar circumstances before. “I’ve been in this situation two or three times in my career and I’ve always made the rotation in the playoffs. It’s just a goal to get better, to support my teammates and when my number is called, go out and do what I want. I can do.”
The Warriors have relied on their deep injury-riddled roster all season.
“I’m glad we have the depth we have through Kyle,” Kerr said. “… We added a lot of depth for that reason, to be able to withstand some injuries.
