The Raptors make a kid awkwardly take off Stephen Curry’s Warriors jersey for a contest

Stephen Curry revolutionized basketballas his game-breaking range from beyond the arc ushered in the three-point era — a quiet period for basketball in which players have more skill than ever. The Golden State Warriors star, as a result of his incredibly consistent play over the past decade, has become one of the most beloved professional athletes on the planet. It’s no surprise, then, that his legendary status has reached the point where even fans of the local team the Warriors are up against are staunch supporters.

On Monday night, Toronto Raptors hosted the Warriors and won 104-101, sending the Dubs stumbling even deeper into the groove. But that might not have been the lowest point for the Warriors or anyone close to the Warriors in attendance at Scotiabank Arena that night. In one fan contest during a stoppage in the action, the Raptors forced a Curry fan to take off his Warriors jersey, forcing him to put on a shirt with the Raptors logo on it while competing in the game.

While it would definitely be weird if the Raptors entertainment team allowed someone to wear the jersey of the opposing team’s best player to entertain the crowd during halftime, this was definitely an awkward moment that would leave a mark on the kid for years to come. But it’s certainly strange that someone who wasn’t even a Raptors fan would be chosen to compete in the game, let alone someone wearing a Curry Warriors jersey.

To make matters worse for the kid, the Warriors ended up losing to the lowly Raptors, 104-101, after all that confusion. Talk about going from bad to worse.

It’s a testament to the popularity of Stephen Curry and the Warriors that they can turn any arena into a neutral ground, especially during their prime. But this 2024-25 Warriors team isn’t the Dubs team kids have grown accustomed to over the years. This Golden State team is mediocrewhich makes the lack of urgency the team’s top players have in addressing their need to bring in more talent that much more apparent.

On Monday night, The Warriors were outplayed by the Raptorsespecially towards the end. This resulted in them dropping to 19-20 on the year – a sharp drop from where they should have started the season. Meanwhile, Toronto is 9-31 on the year, which should say just about everything there is to know about where Golden State stands on the league’s totem pole.

The Warriors may want to rest the likes of Curry and Draymond Green due to wear and tear on their bodies over the years, but this strategy simply isn’t sustainable given the lack of other suitable contributors if they were to miss some time. To make matters worse, Jonathan Kuminga has been out for weeks. This could indeed be the beginning of the end for the Warriors dynasty as we know it.
