Suns move 2031 draft pick 3 first games from Jazz

The Phoenix Suns trade future unprotected first round pick in 2031 Utah Jazz in exchange for three first-round picks, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

As a result of sacrificing this 2031 first-round pick, the Suns add 2025, 2027 and 2029 draft assets from the Jazz. The 2025 pick will be the least expensive first-round pick owned by the Jazz, either from the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Minnesota Timberwolves. As for the 2027 and 2029 first-round picks, they will be the least favorable of the Cavs’, Timberwolves’ and Jazz’s first-round picks in those years.

This aggressive move by the Suns and the owners Matt Ishbia to fill the lost draft capital that was used in previous trades, especially to acquire Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal. Phoenix does not part with its only 2031 first-round pick for three first-round picks, giving them the ability to use the next six draft picks in trade talks both this season and this offseason.

By using their only remaining first-round pick in 2031, the Suns have created a buffer for themselves in terms of using draft assets in future trades. as a result Phoenix’s pursuit of Miami Heat superstar Jimmy Butler it becomes much clearer.

For the Jazz, this trade allows the franchise to continue to rebuild while using the draft picks they received in exchange for Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert for more future value. The Suns’ 2031 draft pick, who will be without Kevin Durant and possibly other superstars until then, is extremely valuable to any team around the league. Utah already owns several first-round draft picks over the next few seasons, so this deal with the Suns doesn’t negatively affect them in any way.

After this trade with the Suns, Utah will have a total of 11 first-round picks in the next seven drafts. For Phoenix, they now have no control over their first-round pick for the next seven years. This is the price they paid to win their first championship.

The Suns will now turn their attention to making a deal with the Heat for Butler. Between the first-round picks they own, as well as The Bradley Bill and its No-Trade ClausePhoenix has the ability to put the pieces together to make a three- or four-team trade for Butler’s job.
