Pete Carroll suddenly joins the Cowboys’ search amid the Raiders’ buzz
The Dallas Cowboys they started the search for a new coach late after the team waited a week earlier continuing with Mike McCarthy. Since then, the Cowboys have been linked to Deion Sanders and, more realistically, Brian Schottenheimer. However, an unexpected candidate for the Cowboys head coaching job appeared.
The owner Jerry Jones addressed the former coach of the Seattle Seahawks Pete Carroll on the Dallas job, per Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The discussion was “informal, although the interest is legitimate enough to be reported.”
Carroll spent 14 seasons as head coach of the Seahawks before retiring after the 2023 season. He left Seattle with a 137-89 regular season record while going 10-9 in the playoffs. Carroll led the team to its first – and, to date, only – Super Bowl title in 2013.
Although Carroll has agreed to part ways with the Seahawks, he is apparently still interested in coaching. At 73, he would be the oldest head coach in the NFL. Andy Reid is currently the league’s oldest coach at 66 years old.
Despite his age, Carroll emerged as a serious contender in the recruiting cycle when he The Chicago Bears interviewed the veteran coach. Las Vegas The Raiders have also shown interest in Carroll. Now that the Bears have hired former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Carroll could be a backup option for the Raiders. The 49ers have also shown interest in recruiting Carroll as the team’s defensive coordinator.

Since parting ways with McCarthy, Dallas has been making noise with its own connection with Sanders. But no serious attempt to bring in a Colorado coach has been reported. The Cowboys met with the former New York Jets coach Robert Saleh and finished a virtual interview with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore preparing to take on the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday.
Recently, the Cowboys held a a five-hour meeting with Schottenheimerwho replaced Moore as offensive coordinator following his departure from Dallas after the 2022 season. This was second personal interview Jones had with Schottenheimer.
It remains to be seen if Dallas will take their interest in Carroll to the next level. But the team has already missed out on top coaching candidates this cycle because of McCarthy’s thorough mishandling. Johnson went to the bear, Aaron Glenn signed with the Jets and the Patriots landed Mike Vrabel.
