We’re set for another NBA betting prediction and pick as we continue our coverage of the wider conference crossover from around the area. The New Orleans Pelicans (12-34) will take over Toronto Raptors (13-32) As both teams look to improve on their current position. It’s time to continue our NBA odds series with pelican-raptor prediction and selection.

The New Orleans Pelicans are fourteenth in the Western Conference and recently fell to the Charlotte Hornets 123-92. They have split their last 10 games at 5-5, putting themselves on a four-game losing streak. They come into this game as short underdogs on the road.

The Toronto Raptors are currently 13th in the East following their most recent 117-94 win over the Atlanta Hawks. The win marked three straight for the first time this season, as they have won five of their last six. At home, they will be looking for 11 wins in the season as bookmakers for just the fourth time all year.

Here is the pelican-raptor NBA oddscourtesy of Fanduel.

Why the Pelicans were able to cover the spread / win

Despite the return of Zion Williamson from injury, the Pelicans don’t seem to be able to catch a break as opposing bowl clubs usually have outside successful nights on offense against them. The Charlotte Hornets appeared to score, but the Grizzlies ran them out of the building and out of the game. However, they have the ability to achieve that in BLOSSI RANKE in Blocks in Blocks (5.5), they can quickly find themselves in the defense and turn it into an offense.

Although he hasn’t been very available, Zion Williamson is certainly an instant game changer for this team, despite the recent losses. He’s their most satisfying returner by a long stretch and while his defense can be questionable at times, he more than makes up for it on the offensive end. They have plenty of scoring options in CJ McCollum and Trey Murphy, but this team will need to lock down on the defensive rim and fight for rebounds while ranking near the bottom of the NBA.

Why the raptors could cover the spread / win

The Toronto Raptors have been the surprise of the last two weeks with a short winning streak, and for the first time they have shown that it is an extended success all season long. RJ Barrett is averaging 18.6 points and 6.6 rebounds in his last 10 games, but his career input against the Pelicans is favorable at 22P / 8R / 11A – expect him to have another great game as the leading catalyst of their recent success. Scottie Barnes leads the team in scoring in the last two and with Herbert Jones for the Pelicans on the other side, he could see another good night attacking the rim and working in the mid-range game.

The backcourt tandem of Davion Mitchell and RJ Barrett has done a sensational job of shutting down Trae Young in the last two games. They were far more aggressive in the paint and players like the underrated Dick could lead the effort in transition and run the floor. They’ve also only shot around 40% from three over the last five games, so expect this team to continue to find its success from the outside. Their passing has also greatly improved as they shoot a much higher percentage late.

Final Pelicans-Raptors Prediction and Picks

Despite being at odds with everything going on, both teams are playing surprisingly well over the last 10 games and have exceeded expectations. While the Raptors own one of the league’s worst records, they are actually one of the NBA’s best in covering the spread at 27-18 (16-9 at home). They’ve also covered the spread in five of their last six games, while the Pelicans have gone 7-15 on the road this season.

While Zion Williamson should put up a good matchup in this game, Jakob Poeltl played great defense in the paint and remained disciplined with his offense. I expect the Grabs to push the ball in transition and once again find opportunities around the hoop as they have done in the last two games. Let’s roll with Toronto to cover at home.

Final Pelicans-Raptors Prediction and Pick: Toronto Raptors -1.5 (-110)
