We’re back with another betting prediction and pick for the upcoming NBA slate as we head to the South Region for this next matchup. The New Orleans Pelicans (12-33) will take over Charlotte Hornets (11-30) As both teams look to bounce back from recent losses. It’s time to continue our NBA odds series with pelican-hornet prediction and selection.
The New Orleans Pelicans dropped their latest game at the Memphis Grizzlies 139-126. It was a high-scoring affair that the Pelicans came up just short of as they continue to work through injuries to their starting lineup. They have also won four of their last five and will look to continue their momentum as travel favourites.
The Charlotte Hornets are currently thirteenth in the Eastern Conference, recently dropping back-to-back games against the Grizzlies and Trail Blazers. Before that, they rode a three-game winning streak for the first time and will be hoping for a similar result in the first moment facing New Orleans.

Why the Pelicans were able to cover the spread / win
Despite their recent success, the New Orleans Pelicans couldn’t keep up with third-place Memphis during their last road game. Still, it was a promising performance for the New Orleans offense as they managed the first three quarters. It was Dejounte Murray going as their leading scorer with CJ McCollum and Trey Murphy close behind. Jordan Hawkins also made an impact off the bench shooting 4-10 from three, so the Pelicans are certainly the hotter team heading into this game.
The loss of Herbert Jones obviously hurt this team on the perimeter as he serves as their best defender on the ball. Brandon Ingram will still miss time, but will likely see Zion Williamson return to the lineup after a brief illness. While the Charlotte Athletics are big men and can protect the paint well, Williamson should have another mismatch as he seems to lead the way in scoring and scrapping as he has done in recent weeks.
Why the Hornets were able to cover the spread / win
The Charlotte Hornets hit a season high three game hitting streak, possibly the best we’ve seen this Charlotte team all season. LAMELO Ball led the way in scoring and ranked fourth in the NBA with 29.0 PPG. He also averaged an average of 7.5 APG, which ranked him eighth in the NBA and offers great looks to his teammates down in the bridges of miles and marks Williams. Williams has emerged as the Paruts’ center of the future and his ability to grab rebounds and dunk around the hoop is what keeps the Hornets competitive in most of their games.
Both Ball and Bridges were coming off their last game against Memphis, so we’re still waiting to see if they’ll start early in this contest. If not, Nick Smith Jr. He’ll likely make another start after posting a respectable 17-5-5 stat line in the close loss. He’s also very sound on the defensive end, but the game may be more of a matchup between Zion Williamson and Mark Williams – expect Williams to have a slight edge with his height and length.
Final Pelicans-Hornets Prediction and Picks
This should be a fun game for both teams for the first time this season, but we’re still waiting for word on whether the Hornets will be without their two best players in Lamelo Ball and Miles Bridges. The Pelicans will get their star running back in Zion Williamson, so expect him to have an immediate impact on the rebounding game and his ability to finish around the perimeter.
The Hornets won’t have much of a chance in this game with both the ball and bridges, but Mark Williams could stand to keep them competitive with his low block plays. He’s been a great defensive presence all season and another shutout performance is what the Hornets need to pick up a win here.
However, the Pelicans went 7-5 heading into the season and as they slowly get healthy, their performance on the court should slowly improve as the season progresses. For our final prediction in this one, we’ll switch with the Pelicans’ new Eagles to cover the short spread on the road.
Final Pelicans-Hornets Prediction and Pick: New Orleans Pelicans ML (-166)
