One word from George Pickens about the Steelers offense will have fans riled up
After watching The Pittsburgh Steelers take another L in the Baltimore Ravens With the season on the line, Black and Yellow fans were looking for someone to take their frustration out on.
Mike Tomlin? There’s no doubt about it: he’s been compared to Andy Reid, his recent record has been questioned, and he has fans directly demand his job until halftime. But sure George Pickenswho led the team in receiving yards and caught all five of his targets would be exonerated, right?
Maybe so, at least until his postgame media session, when the pride of Georgia delivered a quote that fired up fans.
Asked if he’s seen growth from the Steelers’ offense during his tenure in the Steel City, Pickens gave quite an encouraging answer.
“Yeah, I’ve definitely seen signs of growth,” Pickens told Steelers reporters. “Since the first year I’ve been here, just more growth for sure.”
So is Pickens optimistic about the power forward’s future in Pittsburgh, especially as he enters a contract year? Well, his one word answer pretty much says it all.

“No.”
To paraphrase Homer Simpson: D’oh!
If Pickens had just kept to himself and said a by-the-numbers answer that made everyone happy, he probably could have entered the offseason as the bright spot of the season as a whole, even if he had some pretty bad games that, combined with his reputation and comments, would give pause to some fans to commit to him long term. But now? Now, every bad play, underwhelming play and eyebrow-raising statement will be brought back to the forefront for fans to debate vigorously.
Did Pickens play his last game with the Steelers? Will he go on a high note, having caught five passes for 87 yards and a touchdown as Russell Wilson’s favorite target? Or will the two sides come together and take a step forward? Needless to say, this is just one more question the Steelers have to answer this offseason.
