Nets’ Ben Simmons gets candid about 76ers fans from his days in Philly

Brooklyn Nets guard/forward Ben Simmons has had a lot of criticism since he left Philadelphia 76ers. Although his departure was sudden and not appreciated by many, he changed his mind. After Simmons was recently ruled out of the Nets’ loss to the 76ershis respect for his former club resurfaced.

He explained in The Young Man and The Three Podcast that Fr what stands out about the Philadelphia fan base.

“When I went to a city like Philadelphia, I was from Melbourne, Australia, I went to Louisiana, completely different places,” Simmons said. “The fans, I didn’t appreciate the fans enough. Philly fans are amazing. You always want to play for a team that has a good fan base, whether they’re booing or whatever.

“You just want the fans to care, you just want the arena to be packed.” So just that experience in Philly was amazing, I’m so thankful that I got to play there and experience the city of Philly, and know what it feels like to play for a team like Philly and play on a winning team. Winning in Philly is different, there’s no place like it.”

Not many teams in the NBA, or all of American sports, have a fan base like the 76ers. They are a true ride or die for their teams. However, it is not without criticism. The current Nets player has had his game questioned a lot, specifically in the 2021 Eastern Conference Semifinals.

He passed the open dunkwhich moved the size of that series. The 76ers would be eliminated by the Atlanta Hawks in that series, and fans had Simmons on their wanted list. Unfortunately, his confidence is still not there all the way. It’s been that way since I was traded to Brooklyn.

For example, even The Nets broadcast team was sick of Simmons being afraid to lay down. Still, he could be one of the biggest busts in recent memory if he doesn’t find his All-Star form. Simmons is now 14-31 with the Nets and has only played 30 games.

He has already doubled his 15 game streak last season and has a chance to break his 42 game streak two years ago. At the end of the day, Simmons could have ruined his chances of staying with a winning team. While the 76ers have their struggles, they still have star power like Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey.

Simmons could be thinking about a big “what if” about staying in Philly and not committing to Brooklyn.
