Mavericks’ Luka Doncic receives new injury notice from Jason Kidd
DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks will host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night. Before the game, the head coach of the Mavs Jason Kidd secured a Luka Dončić injury update.
“It’s going in the right direction,” Kidd said. “He does everything he’s supposed to do.”
Doncic suffered a sprained left leg on Christmas Day against the Timberwolves. With the Mavs set to play Minnesota again on Wednesday, Luca has yet to return. His timeline remains uncertain for now, but Kidd’s update is encouraging.
Overall, though, the Mavericks are in a tough spot. Injuries have told the story of their 2024-25 season so far, as Derek Lively II recently suffered a fractured right ankle and he is expected to miss two to three months.

The Mavs are trying to stay in the standings despite all the injuries. They are currently in seventh place in the Western Conference, which is pretty impressive considering all the injuries. If the Mavericks continue to stay afloat over the next few weeks, the potential return of Luka Doncic from injury could certainly give them a key spark.
Jason Kidd made it clear that the team is currently focused on taking things one game at a time. The Mavericks are looking to find a way to beat the Timberwolves at home on Monday night despite the absence of Klay Thompson, Najib Marshall, Dwight Powell, Jaden Hardy, Dante Exum, Derek Lively II and Luka Doncic. However, achieving victory will prove to be a challenge.
We will continue to monitor and provide updates on Luka Doncic’s injury status as they become available. Doncic could return before the All-Star break if he doesn’t suffer any crashes. However, as mentioned, there is currently no hard injury timeline for the Mavs star’s return.
Tip-off for Wednesday night’s game is set for 7:30 PM EST in Dallas.
