Lions’ Aaron Glenn breaks his silence when he declined an interview request from the Patriots
New England The Patriots signed Mike Vrabel as their head coach, and it felt like he was leading the way from the beginning of the interview process. The Patriots also interviewed several other candidates for the job, but they too were rejected by some, including Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.
After Glenn declined an interview request, rumors surfaced that he declined because the Patriots were trying to meet the Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview at least two minority candidates during the recruiting process. During a media availability, Glenn broke his silence on why exactly declined an interview request.
“Lyons DC Aaron Glenn says the New England job ‘just wasn’t the best situation for me,’ but he doesn’t feel any ill will toward the organization,” ESPN’s Eric Woodyard wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“Lyons DC Aaron Glenn on head coaching job interviews: ‘I think you learn a number of things from every year you go through them.’ Glenn says he is himself in every interview. “You either like him or you don’t, but he’s focused on the task at hand in Detroit,” Woodyard continued.
There was no question that Glenn would receive interest from teams looking for head coaches, especially with what he was able to accomplish with the Lions’ defense.

Aaron Glenn has been one of the most sought-after candidates for the vacant head coaching job, and one spot seems to be his favorite. The New York The Jets could be where Glenn landsaccording to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“Well, it seems like their search is expanding, not narrowing,” Adam Schefter said on The Pat McAfee Show. “It seems like there are more and more candidates interviewing there all the time.” I think they are very thorough in their approach. I expect it will start to come down to other interviews later this week for GM candidates, maybe even head coaches, depending on the schedule. I still think when you look at the Jets, I believe Aaron Glenn is there in the game as one of the prospect guys.”
The Jets aren’t just looking for a head coach, they also need to find a general manager. Whoever fills those positions will have a lot to accomplish and will need a vision of where they want the team to go next season. Glenn could be a great option for the Jets, but it will also depend on whether he feels like he fits the culture and the organization.
