Kyrie Irving reveals how Luka Doncic ‘annoys’ him

Kyrie Irving shared a a carefree moment about his dynamics with Dallas Mavericks teammate Luka Doncic following team 118-99 loss to the Denver Nuggets. In a postgame interview recorded by The Smoking Cuban’s Noah Weber, Irving candidly admitted that Doncic can be annoying at times, but emphasized that it’s part of their growing friendship.

“Does he ever annoy me?” Yes, people get boring. “He’s not the only person that annoys me,” Irving said. “I annoy him too.” But yeah, we’ve just spent a lot of time off the field, just enjoying each other’s presence, our families getting to know each other. We annoy each other when the wine starts, we start telling jokes, and he starts bringing up how he used to beat me up when I was in Brooklyn – just all the extra memories and stuff like that. Getting annoyed is part of friendship and brotherhood, so I don’t get mad about it.”

Irving returned to action Tuesday night after missing five games due to a sprain of the lumbar part of the back. In his first game at guard, he had 11 points, four rebounds, four steals, two assists and a block as he returned to form. The Mavericks struggled to match the Nuggets’ energy, led by a near-triple-double performance from Nikola Jokic.

Meanwhile, Doncic remains sidelined with a strained left leg that kept him out of the team’s 105-99 Christmas Day loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. According to TNT’s Jared Greenberg, The Mavericks are optimistic about Doncic’s return before the All-Star breakscheduled for February 14-16. However, the team previously announced that Doncic will not be re-evaluated until the end of January.

The Mavericks, currently 22-18, continue to adjust to the changing availability of their star players. Despite the setbacks, Irving and Doncic have shown signs of a promising partnership on and off the court, which Irving highlighted in his comments.

With Irving returning to full form and Doncic nearing a return, the Mavericks aim to strengthen their position in the competitive Western Conference.
