Khalil Mack drops NSFV Justin Herbert endorsement despite playoff loss

Although a favorite on the road, Khalil Mack, Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers have stumbled in their AFC Wild Card matchup against Houston Texas. Despite controlling much of the first half, they suffered a lopsided 32-12 defeat, with Herbert facing significant pain throughout the game.

In a recent interview shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Fernando Ramirez, Chargers linebacker Khalil Mack stood firmly behind teammate Justin Herbert amid criticism. He stated, “People are quick to judge him, but they don’t understand what he’s dealing with. The way he deals with adversity, the way he stays calm under pressure, that makes him a true leader.” He also added, “Who cares what anyone has to say.”

Mack shared that he said Herbert on the flight last night, “You’re going to be an all-time great.”

Herbert bore much of the blame. After an impressive regular season with just three interceptions, he fell apart on Saturday, completing just 14 of 32 passes for 242 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions. Beyond the numbers, Herbert appeared awkward, forcing throws and making unusual decisions.

The Chargers quarterback posted a dismal 13.0 KB rating, marking one of the most forgettable playoff games in recent NFL history. At the press conference after the match, Herbert took responsibility for his strugglesadmitting, “I let the team down.”

Mac is thinking about retirement

Mack also hinted that his playing days may be coming to an end. With 12 seasons under his belt, six Pro Bowl nods and Defensive Player of the Year honors under his belt, the 32-year-old pass rusher is seriously looking toward retirement. “I’ve been thinking a lot about life after football,” the Chargers quarterback revealed. “It’s a decision I’ll take my time on.”

The former Defensive Player of the Year told reporters that he needs time to think and stay away from an emotional choice. He stressed the importance of discussing his future with his family and acknowledged past mistakes and snap decisions. This time he focused on adopting a more deliberate and thoughtful approach to retirement.

If Mak decides to retirethe Chargers defense will face a significant void. However, there is hope for the future – rookie Tuli Tuipulotu has had an impressive season and looks poised to take on a bigger role.

Despite the disappointing finish, the Chargers are not in a difficult position. This was the first year under head coach Jim Harbaugh, and the roster is loaded with promising young talent.

As Mack’s decision hangs in the balance, so does the question of Herbert’s return. Is he a quarterback who torched defenses in the regular season or one who fumbled in the playoffs? The Chargers believe in him, and with Harbaugh leading the way, there is optimism that Herbert can take his game to the next level.
