Kevin Durant reflects on the scenario of what almost happened in the Thunder championship



In the middle Oklahoma City ThunderBest regular season in over a decade, Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant delivered a what-if scenario involving his former team. Former Thunder veteran Derek Fisher went down memory lane recently, and Durant followed him on a recent episode of the Out The Mud Podcast.

He sits next to the former Memphis Grizzlies guard Tony Allen and forward Zach Randolph, Durant listened as Allen revealed, he almost joined the Thunder in the midst of Oklahoma City’s NBA championship run.

“I had the opportunity to play in Oklahoma City,” Allen said. “I don’t know if you were ever aware of that.”

Allen’s revelation surprised Durant.

“Come on, man. “Don’t tell me that,” Durant said.

“Listen, I’m coming down.” Do a physical exam. “Before I knew it, they told me they were going to get (Thabo) Sefolosha,” Allen added. “It blew me away.”

According to Allen, this happened after spending time with the Boston Celtics following their run to the NBA Finals in 2010. Tony says that explains why he always played his hardest whenever he faced the Thunder. Durant doubted there was a reason for the extra effort.

“I didn’t even get that information,” Durant said. “That’s crazy.”

Then Durant revealed how close Oklahoma City was to landing the defensive center Tyson Chandlerwho ultimately helped Dirk Nowitzki lead the Dallas Mavericks to a championship against LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat in the 2011 NBA Finals.

“If we had Tyson Chandler under center, come on bro. “We would be different,” Durant said. “People are talking about James (Harden) being traded from our team that screwed up our team. That fucking team of ours for sure, but we (not) getting Tyson, that hurt. It hurt a lot.”

The Thunder voided the trade for Chandler due to a failed physical (toe injury).

Derek Fisher talks about his regrets with Kevin Durant, Thunder

Five-time Los Angeles Lakers champion Derek Fisher spent a number of years of his 18-year career with the Thunder. Fisher was part of what Kevin Durant remembers as the most challenging playoff series of his career, while his veteran point guard recently revealed his regrets.

Fisher spoke about it in an episode of Podcast P with Paul George.

“There was a generation gap, like guys in their early 20s compared to guys in their early 30s and mid-30s, which is where I mostly come from. However, when it actually came back on the other side, this is more of an experience for me that I regret. I wish I had said more,” Fisher said.

This year’s Thunder team has a chance to reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 2012.
