Jon Rahm drops a wild truth bomb on LIV Golf, OVGR

Jon Rahm a very successful first season is released on LIFE Golf. Rahm won the season championship for LIVmostly dominating the Saudi-funded circuit. His participation in LIV does not allow him to play in any PGA Tour current events. But the same rule does not apply to the DP world tour.

Rahm is in the field for this week’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic. He is joined by some of the world’s best, including Rory McIlroy, Victor Howland and Tyrell Hutton, among others.

After final preparations for a key European tour stop, Rahm shed some light on it LIV Golf’s Official World Golf Ranking (OVGR) problem..

“They (LIV Golf) told me early on, I think even before I signed in early discussions, that they weren’t going to continue those discussions at the same level because they knew where it was headed.”

It’s a very interesting development. Several players on LIV have openly said that they were told they would earn OVGR points. Those points are, of course, key in determining a player’s eligibility to play in major championships. But according to Rahm, if you’re reading the tea leaves, that’s no longer a priority.

Maybe that’s why players like Eugenio Chakara condemned PIF’s Saudi tour for lying about OVGR. But just because LIV Golf doesn’t score points in the world rankings doesn’t mean it shouldn’t.

“I think it’s wrong at this point not to give LIV the world ranking points and credibility it deserves,” Ram said. “I understand that we all made a decision and it’s not as easy as it sounds, but it’s wrong to say that some LIV players don’t deserve some spots in the big championships.”

“There should be a way to qualify… The world ranking points have to come up with something because it’s not fair for anybody in that sense.”

It’s ridiculous to argue that players like Jon Rahm, Brison DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka and Cameron Smith aren’t among the best on the planet. But all of them recently won degrees, which allowed them to enter the main categories.

But many others on the rival PGA Tour aren’t so lucky.
