Jazz GM reveals no. 1 Choose a reason for the 3-for-1 trade
When The Utah Jazz traded three first-round picks On the Phoenix Suns, many are confused. To begin with, some thought it was all in Phoenix’s favor. However, the pick that general manager Justin Zanik sent is all loaded with protected protection and is considered the “least favorable” pick.
Choose that jazz received? Suns ‘2031 First park. Why is this significant? That pick has zero protection on it. For example, if Phoenix has an abysmal 2030-31 season, the draft rights belong to the Jazz. Even if it’s No. 1, it will belong to Utah, no matter what.

“It (the trade) balances what we want,” Zanik said. “We’ve always talked about bites on Apple or more swings in the draft, but it’s also ongoing swing quality and that’s, in my opinion, the most valuable asset on the market right now.”

Trading three low-value picks for an unprotected pick is a win. They capitalized on the Suns being desperate to land Jimmy Butler. They damn all their designs in trades for Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal. While Phoenix could end up perhaps a short-term victory, Utah could be the real winner.

Although The Jazz did not make a trade for the playerZanik explained more about what makes her less approachable while achieving this trade.
“The way it makes sense is now we have another shot in the selection that has a lot of variability,” Zanick said. “The three guys we traded don’t have a chance to be the number one pick, and it works.”
Over the next seven years, the Jazz still own 11 first-round picks. Losing three of them wasn’t that big of a deal. Plus, they’re currently rebuilding and have a chance to strike gold for years to come. The move is very similar to what the Oklahoma City Thunder did in their trade when they sent Paul George to Los Angeles.
Bars sent six parcels of the first round and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. While Utah didn’t trade a specific player, they took advantage of a team in win-new mode. If the Suns don’t win the NBA title before that season, it could be a major shot in the foot.
On the flip side, it will make the Jazz look like complete geniuses that they drafted a forward like that.
