Why the Grizzlies could cover the spread/win
Related newsThe article continues below
The Grizzlies are coming off a big win against the Jazz, as both Jaren Jackson Jr. and Zach Eddy scored 28 and 19 points, respectively. The tandem has been a problem for opposing teams all season and if Edei can continue to spread the offense, he will become one of the more imposing big men in the Western Conference. The Grizzlies also played with a lofty attitude as they built their solid identity as a team. It paid off as the Grizzlies went 31-15 ATS on the season.
Desmond Bain really raised his game in situations where Ja Morant had to miss time. He’s shooting 38.6% from three this season, but has been on fire over the last 10 games shooting 51%. Look for him to continue shooting from deep while offering Ja Morant a great outlet along the perimeter. They’re still waiting for Santi Aldama to return from injury, but his recovery will only add to this already deep lineup that can keep up with most offenses in the league.
Why the Knicks might cover the spread/win
The New York Knicks have been playing some of their best basketball of the season lately, thrilling teams and convincingly playing against the Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings. Their win over Sacramento was particularly impressive as they outscored their opponents 38-53. OG Anunoby had a season-high 33 points as the Knicks had four scorers with at least 20 points (Bridges, Brunson, Hart). Not to mention, Josh Hart had a stat line of 20-18-11 for another triple-double and this Knicks team is firing on all cylinders.
The Knicks shot a solid 49.5% from the field and 47.2% from deep, well above their season mark of 37%. The team also plays well defensively and trusts their shooters to find buckets if they find themselves in a shooting game. They should have a stunning game in the paint against a Grizzlies team that boasts a very large frontcourt. It will be interesting to see how Karl-Anthony Towns handles the low-scoring matchup after his 15-rebound performance last game.
Final Grizzlies-Knicks prediction and pick
This will be a great game between two of the hottest teams in their respective conferences and we should see the positional matchups in the paint decide who wins this one. Zach Eddy and Jaren Jackson are currently playing at a high level for Memphis, but the Knicks are seeing consistent performance from all of their starters and this offense.
Lastly, we need to favor the Knicks defense a bit and force Ja Morant to kick the ball out. Zach Edey could have a big day rebounding, but the New York Knicks tend to create opportunities and run the boards in numbers. While the Grizzlies have been a much better team to cover this season, we like the New York Knicks to cover this performance at home and continue their dominant streak as they end the Grizzlies streak.
Final Grizzlies-Knicks prediction and pick: New York Knicks -4 (-110)
