Does Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving play against the Pelicans? Latest injury update

The Dallas Mavericks will take on the New Orleans Pelicans on the road for the second of back-to-back games on Wednesday night. They were defeated by the Denver Nuggets at home on Tuesday night 118-99. Although it was a tough loss, it was heartening to see Kyrie Irving returns from injury. So does Irving play in the second game of back-to-back games on Wednesday?

After Tuesday’s game, the Mavs head coach Jason Kidd said he hopes Irving will be available. Irving echoed a similar sentiment while speaking to reporters, saying that he he plans to play against Pelican.

Kyrie Irving’s injury status against the Pelicans

Irving, who sat out the Mavs’ previous five games before Tuesday with a lumbar sprain, appears to have a realistic chance to play Wednesday night. Additionally, Irving’s injury status has not yet been released as of this writing.

Kyrie finished Tuesday’s game with 11 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists. It wasn’t his best outing of the season by any means, but the fact that he was able to play was important. Kidd addressed Irving’s postgame play.

“I thought he was good,” Kidd said of Irving. “I have a great look. He didn’t make some of the ones he normally makes tonight… He was out for five games… It was good to be back.”

The Mavs are now 22-18 overall, while the Pelicans are just 9-32. New Orleans currently holds the worst record in the Western Conference. Dallas dropped to sixth in the West with Tuesday’s loss. Perhaps the Mavs will begin to earn wins at a more consistent rate as Irving adjusts to his return. It is worth noting that Luka Dončić is not expected to return until the end of January at the earliest, and he could be out longer than that.

The Mavericks and Pelicans will face off on Wednesday night at 8:00 PM EST. So is Kyrie Irving playing tonight against the Pelicans? The answer is currently uncertain.
