David Montgomery drops a ‘refreshing’ truth bomb on his return to the Commanders game
The Detroit Lions they feel like a team of destiny. Detroit finished the regular season 15-2, their best record in franchise history. The lions did everything they could set themselves an easy path to Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans. Detroit will regain a key offensive weapon ahead of its Divisional Round matchup against the Commanders.
Lions running back David Montgomery he should be able to come back this Saturday against the Commanders.
“It’s refreshing,” Montgomery told ESPN’s Eric Woodiard. “To kind of get back in a position where I can help the team, yeah, I’ve missed that, I’m so happy to be back.”
Montgomery suffered an MCL injury during Week 15 and he hasn’t played since. Montgomery’s season was rumored to be over and he would need surgery. However, that was not true and Montgomery will be back this week.
Montgomery addressed that speculation during the same interview with ESPN.
“I think the speculation is that I’m going to have surgery or that that was the end of it.” “Nobody ever really knew,” Montgomery said. “When it was shut down, I didn’t know I was going to have surgery.” That’s what the media told me, so it was news to me, but I’ve always been pretty confident about who I am and how I prepare.
Lions fans will be thrilled to have Montgomery back on the field for one of the most important games of the season.

Campbell praised Montgomery and explained how much he means to Detroit’s offense.
“It will mean a lot,” Campbell said. “Pet is a big part of us. He is a big part of us, and for me he is a bell cow. He is someone who sets the tone. He’s a catalyst, so there’s a place for him. There is a place for him here, so there will be a place for him in this game. So it will be good to have him back.”
The stakes couldn’t be higher for the Lions. Campbell dismissed the narrative that this season is the Super Bowl or a bust for Detroit. His goal is to keep the team focused on the opponent in front of them, the Commanders.
That hasn’t stopped some Lions players from thinking about what a Super Bowl appearance would look like. Montgomery even admitted that he dreams of making the big game.
“I would dream of us going to the Super Bowl,” Montgomery said. “It’s crazy. And the closer we get, the more vivid they become. I have them often. But I don’t know what it’s going to look like when we get there, but I know we’re going to be there.”
If Detroit can take care of business against Washington on Saturday, they will be one win away from their first ever Super Bowl berth.
The Lions vs. Commanders kick off Saturday at 8:00 PM ET in Detroit.
