Colorado’s Travis Hunter gets an Anthony Edwards jersey at the Mavericks-Timberwolves game

Soccer in Colorado stand out and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter was sitting by the court during the Wednesday night game between Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves at the American Airlines Center.

After the game, Hunter was presented with a game-wearing jersey Timberwolves star Anthony Edwardsto which Hunter replied, “I’m not even a size 14, but I am!”

Edwards had 21 points in Minnesota’s 115-114 win before meeting with Hunter outside the locker room.

It’s already been a big week for Hunter, who many think he could be No. 1 pick in April’s NFL draft. Earlier this week, Tennessee Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker told reporters, “We’re not going to pass on generational talent with the first pick in the NFL draft. We will not do that.”

Most people in football circles believe that Brinker was talking about Hunter, with NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo posting on Ks“Generational Talent” = Travis Hunter, not one of the KBs. So save this one for later as the Titans get closer to the pick (92 days from today).”

College football hasn’t seen a player like Hunter in decades, a two-way phenom who was just as great as a defensive back. Hunter played nearly 1,400 snaps on offense and defense, 382 more than any other player in the country, and became Colorado’s first Heisman Trophy winner since Rashaan Salam in 1994.

On offense, Hunter piled up 1,152 receiving yards with 14 touchdowns and added another score on the ground. Defensively, Hunter was a disruptive force in the Buffalo secondary, with 32 tackles, four interceptions and 11 pass deflections. During his postseason awards tour, Hunter became the first player in college football history to win both the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation’s top defensive player and the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s top wide receiver.

In December, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer surveyed 13 anonymous NFL head coaches and general managers of where Hunter would play in the NFL, and 12 said, “cornerback with packages on offense.” One pollster even said she would try Hunter at punt returner.

Everyone agreed that he was a unicorn player.

The hunter will be represented from Lil Wayne’s Young Money APAA Sports, where he signed late last month.
