Charles Barkley backs up Rockets Alperen Sengun All-Star

The Houston Rockets have skyrocketed into contender status, and their rise has been quite exciting to watch as they have assembled one of the brightest young cores in the association. The the crown jewel of the Rockets team remains star big man Alperen Sengunwho continued to flourish as one of the league’s most versatile offensive big men, capable of playing bully in the paint, functioning as a handoff center to open shots for Jaylen Green and Fred VanVleet – the next type of play style popularized by Nikola Jokic and Domantas Sabonis.

And now, it’s not like Sengun is collecting “empty stats”; The Rockets, at the time of this writing, are 27-12 — good for second best in the West, which is no mean feat considering how stacked the conference is. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the Rockets are getting the recognition they deserve with Sengun drawing some rave All-star reviews of one of the greatest big men of all time, Charles Barkley.

“(The Rockets) are really playing now. The name Udoka does a fantastic job. An interesting question must be Alperen Sengun. Will he be an All-Star or not? I would put him on the All-Star team because we have to reward winning. And he’s the best player on the team with the second-best record in the West. Man, this guy got the job, as Shak would say. He’s a poor man’s Kevin McHale,” Barkley said on TNT’s Inside the NBA.

Considering how harsh the legends of the game can be on the modern NBA, the fact that Sengun was able to receive such high praise is a testament to how far he and the Rockets have come.

The Rockets have become a thoroughly well-oiled machine that hums on both ends of the floor, and it’s not just Alperen Sengun who is lifting the team to great heights. They’ve hit nearly every pick they’ve made since the start of the 2021 rebuild, and they, in turn, have been able to assemble a core that only gets better.

Jalen Green has been on a tear the past few games, while Amen Thompson was brilliant since he stepped into the starting role. And to think the Rockets have been without Jabari Smith Jr. and Terry Eason for the last few weeks?
