Bobby Marks thinks Warriors Stephen Curry would land Paul Pierce-Kevin Garnett in a trade

The Golden State Warriors have stumbled of late after starting the season as one of the NBA’s hottest teams. If the playoffs started today, the Warriors wouldn’t even qualify for the Play-In tournament, let alone the postseason. Golden State is showing signs of a dynasty collapsewith victories no longer standard and instead a fleeting memory. This collapse has vultures circling over the Warriors, waiting Golden State will begin to blow up their roster and trading away their stars, including a superstar guard Stephen Curry.

While many wonder if the Warriors would even enjoy trading Curry, it’s also fair to wonder what Golden State would get in return. Even though Curry is 36 years old, he is still playing at an elite level this season, showing that he has enough fuel in the tank to win a championship, depending on the situation. Given that ESPN analyst Bobby Marks believes Golden State would trade Curry require a fairly significant return for warriors.

“That’s the reality here,” Marks said in an appearance on The Kevin O’Connor Show. “I don’t see the trade of Nikola Vucevic that this team would suddenly run away from. I don’t believe Zion (Williamson) will be traded. There’s just nothing there.

“It’s a tough discussion they’re going to have to have this summer.” Because in the best interest of the organization, it could be exactly that move. Because a year from now, we might be talking again, saying, ‘Bobby, Golden State is 21-20, what are you doing?’ Like, are you going to overpay Kuminga? What are your options?

“That’s the reality and, man, I didn’t go through this exercise.” If you put Curry on the open market, with a multi-year deal, you’ll get more than what we traded for Pierce and Garnett.

For those who don’t know, Marks helped lead the Brooklyn Nets during the 2013-14 season. Entering that year, Marks agreed to an emergency trade with the Boston Celtics that brought the Nets Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Jason Terry and DJ White.

In return, Brooklyn sent Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, Marshawn Brooks, Keith Bogans (in a sign-and-trade) and Chris Joseph, along with three first-round draft picks (2014, 2016, 2018) and an option to trade a first-round pick to Boston in 2017

At first, the Nets’ offer to the Celtics didn’t seem like a league-changer. In 2014, Boston only received a 17th round pick from Brooklyn. They selected James Young with that pick, who lives in infamy. However, what the Celtics did later with their catch put Boston in position to build another dynasty.

After the 2015-16 season, the Nets finished 21-61, the second-worst record in the Eastern Conference. Losing Brooklyn was in Boston’s favor, as the Celtics took Jaylen Brown with the Nets’ 2016 first-round pick.

The next year went even worse for Brooklyn, going 20-62. Thanks to the ability to trade picks, Boston had the No. 1 pick in the 2017 draft but was not interested in Markelle Fultz, the consensus top prospect. Instead, they traded the top pick to the Philadelphia 76ers and selected Jayson Tatum, who was waiting for them at No. 3.

From there, the Celtics have further enriched their roster and are arguably the second best team in the Eastern Conference. So if the Warriors wanted to trade Curry, Golden State would have hit rock bottom. However, like the Celtics, the Warriors could rise again and return to contender status as time goes on.
