Billy Donovan received clarification on Torrie Craig’s injury

CHICAGO – Chicago Bulls small forward Torrey Craig has missed the last eight games due to injury. Craig is expected to be sidelined for several more weeks while he recovers, a team spokesman said. Craig has been diagnosed with a sprained right ankle and will be re-evaluated at the end of the month.

“Chicago Bulls forward Torey Craig has been diagnosed with a sprained right ankle,” a team spokesman said in a news release Monday. “Craig will be reassessed in two weeks. Updates will be provided as needed.”

The Bulls hosted the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday, and head coach Billy Donovan shared an update on Torrey Craig before the game. It sounds like it was a little unclear at first what the injury was, but now that it’s been diagnosed, Craig can begin the road to recovery.

“I think what ended up happening was he (Tori Craig) was affected by those nerves,” Donovan told the media before Wednesday’s game. “It was difficult for him to get his muscles to react because of where he was hit.” As it started to come back, after that his ankle started to hurt, and they realized going back through the video and looking at it, it was a sprained ankle. So they’re just treating it right now.”

So far this season, Craig has only been able to play in nine games. He is averaging 12.6 minutes per game and 6.9 PPG in those 12.6 minutes. He also averages 2.8 RPG and 0.6 APG. When Craig was able to play, he was effective.

If Torey Craig is re-evaluated exactly two weeks after the press release, then the earliest he could return to action is January 27th against the Denver Nuggets. If he is still not ready, he could miss all of January.
