Ben Johnson kicks Matt LaFleur as he’s down after getting the bear job
Recently, the The Chicago Bears have taken a step into the future engagement Ben Johnson to be the next head coach of the franchise. Johnson was previously the offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, who boasted the best offense in the league this season, and the hope is that he will be able to assistant guide Caleb Williams to become the generational superstar talent Bears fans hoped they would get last April.
Johnson has already made a number of eyebrow-raising comments during his first few days in the Windy City, and continued on Wednesday with a not-so-disguised jab at NFC North rivals Green Bay Packersvia Ari Meirov of the 33rd team at X, formerly Twitter.
“Dan Campbell, Kevin O’Connell, you’re talking about two guys who are in contention for coach of the year when the season ends,” Johnson said when discussing his competition in the division. “And to be honest with you, I kind of enjoyed the beating Matt LaFleur twice a year.”
Beating Matt LaFleur isn’t something the Bears have done often over the years, and Ben Johnson hopes his expertise in that department will come in handy this season.
Can the Bears compete in the NFC North?

This year, the NFC North was one of the most loaded divisions in recent NFL history, as the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings all won 12-plus games to make the playoffs. For a while, it looked like the Bears would be in the mix after a 4-2 start, but things quickly came back down to Earth in Chicago.
It should be noted that none of the three NFC North teams that made the playoffs won a game when they got there, perhaps calling into question just how impressive the season really was for the division.
Still, for a first-time coach in Johnson, that’s probably not the kind of competition you’d ideally want to face in your first year.
In any case, the Bears will now turn their attention to the NFL Draft, which is scheduled to take place in April from Green Bay.
