The PGA Tour heads to Southern California for the American Express! We’ll continue our PGA Tour odds tour below series as we share the forecast and choose American Express.

Last season, Nick Dunlap managed to win as an amateur. However, due to his amateur status, he could not exempt the prize money. Dunlap will look to claim the top prize and repeat as champion at the American Express this weekend.

Scotty Scheffler is still sidelined after cutting his hand in December, Rory McIlroy will also play in Dubai, but Dunlap will still have plenty of competition. Justin Thomas, Toni Finau, Windham Clark and Patrick Cantlay are all big names who will be in contention. Even without some of the top names, it should still be a fun, competitive weekend.

American Express is played on three courses. There is La Quinta Country Club, the Pete Die Stadium Course and the Nicklaus Tournament Course. Pete Die Stadium will host Sunday’s round. Needless to say, each course offers different challenges. Golfers will need to be on top of their game at all times. With a tournament like this, it comes down to the basics: hitting fairways and making shots. Whoever does this best will come out on top.

Here’s American Express Golf oddscourtesy of FanDuel.

American Express Favorites

Justin Thomas: Justin Thomas finished third in this event last year. He played in one competition this year, and finished in 26th place. It wasn’t the finish he was hoping for at Sentry, but his fourth-round 63 means he could have made something of his swing. Thomas hit a lot of greens in regulation at Sentry, and his putting was above average. He needs to hit a few more fairways, but if he can play like he did this week, Thomas will have a chance to win.

Sam Burns: Burns is tied for eighth on Sentry to start the 2025 season. He had a fantastic year in 2024 and started 2025 right where he left off. Burns was able to hit his fairway, and his putter was one of the best of the tournament. The 28-year-old was also very good with his irons at Sentry. Now, he doesn’t drive the ball from long range, but if he continues to shoot well, Burns will be on top of the table on Sunday.

Windham Clark: Clark participated in the first TGL event last week. For the American Express tournament, Clark is the top-ranked golfer participating according to the OVGR. He finished tied for 15th at Sentry and stroked the ball well. Clark put himself in great position to make birdies, and averaged 6.50 per round at Sentry. If he can keep hitting those birdies, Clark will have a good weekend.

American Express Sleeper Picks

Nick Dunlap: Dunlap is the reigning American Express champion. Dunlap has made both cuts this season, finishing tied for 10th last weekend at the Sony Open in Hawaii. He was able to bail out after getting into trouble, and his play at the Sony Open was much better than Sentry’s. Dunlap will hit his greens in regulation, he just has to hit his putts. If Dunlap just sinks his shots, there’s a good chance he’ll repeat at the AMEX.

JJ Spawn: Spaun’s first event of the season was the Sony Open, and he played extremely well. Spaun finished third in the competition. His total of 2,425 strokes tied for fourth in the PGA, and that makes for a very good first tournament. Spawn could also dominate with his irons. However, his driving was lacking and his putting needs some work. Spaun’s iron will save him, but if he can hit more fairways, he can win the American Express.

The final American Express prediction and selection

This is going to be a fun tournament, despite the fact that the bigger names won’t be part of it. Big underdogs have won this event in the past few years (outside of Jon Rahm in 2023), and that could be the case this season. I’ll take Wyndham Clark to win though. I think Clark has a great chance to win and take home the trophy.

American Express Final Prediction and Pick: Wyndham Clark (+3000)
