Adam Schefter gave an update on Aaron Glenn at the Jets party
The Detroit Lions received a bye in the first round of the playoffs, and now prepare to host the Washington Commanders in the divisional round. The Lions are hungry for a Super Bowl and this is a crucial time for the team, but there are some outside distractions. Both Detroit coordinators are targets for head coaching vacancies, and those teams are trying to fill those positions as soon as possible. Defense coordinator Aaron Glenn is currently in the race for New York Jets job.
And Aaron Glenn and the offensive coordinator Ben Johnson are the main targets of this year’s coaching carousel, there is currently a lot of news regarding them in terms of interviews and potential suitors. ESPN’s Adam Schefter gave an update on the situation with the Jets, and claims that Glenn is in the race.
“Well, it seems like their search is expanding, not narrowing,” Adam Schefter said during an appearance on the The Pat McAfee Show. “It seems like there are more and more candidates interviewing there all the time.” I think they are very thorough in their approach. I expect it will start to come down to other interviews later this week for GM candidates, maybe even head coaches, depending on the schedule. I still think when you look at the Jets, I believe Aaron Glenn is there in the game as one of the prospect guys.”
Lions fans are hoping that Glenn and Johnson will return to Detroit next season, but that seems unlikely. Both of these guys are top coordinators in the NFL, and their ultimate goal is to be a head coach. Schefter believes both will get jobs this offseason.

“Aaron Glenn is going to get the job this cycle,” Schefter continued. “Ben Johnson will get the job this cycle.” And I think there’s every possibility and probably the likelihood that the Lions will lose both of their coordinators this cycle. I’d be really surprised if both of them didn’t come out of this with head coaching jobs. And I think Aaron Glenn is somebody who’s already getting a lot of attention from the Jets, a lot of attention in New Orleans, and like I said, it would upset me a lot if he didn’t come out of this with a job.”
If that happens, Lions fans are hoping the two will help lead the team to their first Super Bowl before they leave. Detroit certainly has a decent chance to make that dream come true, as they are the current favorite to win it all. Their Super Bowl run begins Saturday against the Commanders.
The Lions and Commanders will kick off from Ford Field in Detroit at 8:00 ET on Saturday night and the game will be televised on Fox. The Lions currently have a 10-point lead.
