The Utah Jazz are currently second to last in the Western Conference, and last they lost to the Miami Heat 97-92. They have gone just 5-10 in their last 15 games, but posted rare back-to-back wins over the Magic and Heat just a week ago. They will look to finally beat Phoenix in their third meeting.

The Phoenix Suns occupy the 12th place in the Western standings, and last time they beat Atlanta 123-115. Despite that, they are just 3-7 in their last 10 games and have fallen below .500 on the season. They will have their backs against the wall as the home betting favorites looking to continue sweeping the Jazz.

Why the Jazz might cover the spread/win

The Utah Jazz are in disarray right now with Keyonte George and John Collins out of the starting lineup. While Lauri Markkanen and Walker Kessler have done a great job in the paint for the Jazz, they clearly lack the athleticism and rebounding efforts of John Collins. Jordan Clarkson will also miss extended time with an injury, so they will have a hard time finding someone to replace his 16 PPG and energy off the bench.

Lauri Markkanen continues to build on the big season he posted in 2023, but the Utah Jazz have shown complete faith in Walker Kessler and Kyle Filipkowski as a solid tandem when Lauri hits the bench. Both big men are still trying to find their offensive footing, but the pair combine for consistent rebounding and their defensive efforts were immediately evident in blocking shots and clogging up the paint. Against a Suns team that is in decline at the moment, this could be the place for the Jazz to pick up a big win.

Why the Suns could cover the spread/win

The Phoenix Suns are riding their own battle bus as they continue to make drastic changes to their roster in hopes that something will stick. Starters Jusuf Nurkic and Bradley Beal have recently been benched as the Suns clearly need a spark when Kevin Durant and Devin Booker are off the floor. While it’s probably not a position he wants to be in, Bradley Beal offers the perfect option and deep scoring threat for them off the bench. He has had two 25-point nights in the last three games since stepping into his new role.

The same cannot be said for big man Jusuf Nurkic, who logged zero minutes in their last game against the Hawks. By all accounts, it appears Phoenix will be shopping their center in hopes of finding a better scoring option elsewhere. Mason Plumlee filled the center position and after years of being a reliable big man off the bench, he finally gets a chance to shine with his tough rebounding and excellent defensive play.

Both teams are in dire straits right now and are looking for answers to try and change their trajectory for the rest of the season. We have to give the slight edge to the Utah Jazz when it comes to the inside game for this game. The Suns are in a mess right now as they start Mason Plumlee and trade Jusuf Nurkic, so the Jazz are waiting for big performances from Markkanen, Kessler and Filipkowski for their matchups.

However, Kevin Durant and Devin Booker will both have a say in this one, and you can’t imagine they’re too happy about the way this year has gone for them, so expect both to put in a good effort to score the ball. The Suns have beaten the Jazz by exactly eight points in their first two meetings, so given this margin, we’ll have to side with the Utah Jazz as the Phoenix Suns find victory.
