The Sixers have ruled rookie star Jared McCain out for the season after knee surgery

Philadelphia 76ers newcomer Jared McCain will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing left knee surgery last month for a torn meniscus.

20-year-old McCain spent one season in Duke before Sixers made him their first-round draft pick in 2024. McCain is off to a fantastic start, averaging 15.3 points in 23 games. He started eight games and was an instant fan favorite so much so that he amassed nearly 5 million followers as a TikTok sensation.

McCain won Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month honors for November, but complained of knee soreness after the Dec. 13 game against Indiana.

McCain was one of the rare moments for the Sixers, who scored a career-high 34 points in a loss to Cleveland in mid-November. He has scored 20 or more points in eight games this season.

Injuries to Philadelphia stars Joel Embiid, Tyrese McKay and Paul George — billed as the team’s “Big Three” after George’s offseason arrival — limited the trio to playing parts of just three games together. As a result, the Sixers got off to a 15-20 start.

Embiid (sprained left foot), Andre Drummond (left finger sprain), Kyle Lowry (right hip strain) i KJ Martin (left leg) are all ruled out for Friday’s game against New Orleans. George is probably with a cramp in his groin.
