The Mavericks guard reveals the truth about Kyrie Irving, the team without Luka Doncic

DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks have earned two straight wins despite Luka Dončić and He is missing due to Kyrie Irving’s injury. Jaden Hardy led the Mavs to a 117-111 victory against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday as the Mavericks guard scored 25 points.

Hardy’s effort was especially important, as Klay Thompson scored just three points against the Blazers. Thompson’s quiet game combined with Doncic and Irving’s absences, it’s not exactly a recipe for success, but Dallas still deserved to win. What does that say about the Mavericks team?

“I mean, we have a very deep roster,” Hardy he told reporters. “A lot of guys that can get a bucket … That’s what we do, we just rely on each other. Just leaning on each other, talking to each other… That’s what it’s all about.”

Hardy wants to take the next step in his career. The 22-year-old Mavs guard has shown signs of potential, but has yet to find true consistency in the NBA. Hardy realizes that he needs to take advantage of every opportunity.

“You never want to see guys out, you know, with an injury,” Hardy said. “You know, in this league, it’s the next man up.” I just try to take advantage of the opportunities that come my way. I just try to be a good teammate whenever I’m out there, just bring that energy. I feel that alone can be a game changer. That’s what I’m all about, just go in, try to make an impact and play the right way.”

The Mavericks are clearly the better team with Doncic and Irving on the floor. That said, Thursday’s win was encouraging. Of course, the Blazers did not exactly enjoy the best season. Still, they are an NBA team and they posed a challenge Thursday night.

Jaden Hardy stepped up to lead off. He will continue to see increased minutes if he continues to play at a high level.
