The Cowboys linebacker can’t believe Dan Quinn’s success with the Commanders

The Dallas Cowboys watched this new, uneasy feeling on Saturday night. Their rival is Washington Commanders are now one win away from going to the Super Bowl. And their former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn it changes that culture.

Quinn and the Commanders beat the top-seeded Detroit Lions 45-31. However, the Commanders’ first-year coach is finding instant success with the long-running franchise. Not even one of his former Cowboys defenders can believe it.

Dallas cornerback Jordan Lewis took to social media to express his shock according to the run of the commander under Quinn.

“There’s no way DK went and did this right away,” Lewis said, referring to his former DC by his initials.

Quinn re-established himself as a bona fide NFL head coach with the Cowboys. It produced the league’s fifth-ranked defensive unit in 2023. The former Atlanta Falcons head coach earned a second chance to be a head coach again. Quinn has now stunned multiple NFL people, including his former CB.

Quinn’s new defensive unit surrendered 30 or more points for the sixth time this season. But he put on a defensive clinic against one of the league’s most dangerous offenses at Ford Field.

Quinn rushed five Commander defenders with the Lions in an empty set (no running backs in the backfield). Dorrance Armstrong knifed and knocked the ball away from Jared Goff. Frankie Luvu pounced on a fumble for the first takeaway.

Quinn failed to outwit Lions coach Dan Campbell and his strong offense. The head coach appeared to try to send four rushers near the 5:40 mark of the second quarter. But Quinn dropped eight in coverage — which ultimately led to a 40-yard pick by Quan Martin.

Washington continued his interception party. Mike Sainristil grabbed a Goff pass inside the end zone to help close out the second quarter. Jeremy Chin iced the game by catching his pick in the red zone. ‘

The Lions gashed Quinn’s defense with 521 total yards. But Quinn’s coach ripped the heart out of the fan base and franchise that believed a Super Bowl berth was coming. It didn’t take long for the Seattle Seahawks’ 2013 Super Bowl-winning defensive coordinator to rebuild the Commanders. Now he has the nation’s capital, plus Commanders fans, contemplating his first NFC title since the 1991 season. But are his former Cowboys players like Lewis watching as the turnaround continues.
