The Heat captain in Adebayo suffered a back injury in a hard landing during last Saturday’s win over the Portland Trail Blazers. With eight minutes and some changes in the second quarter, Nikola Jovic attempted a header towards Adebayo who was a little outside the base where the wrongdoer passed the ball in the last minute, but he was the first to fall back on the baseline.

He would be down in pain for a while until he was back up and walking under his own power, which is no doubt a good sign. Adebayo finished the game, even playing 30 minutes in the contest, but also missed his first game of the season in Monday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Warming up the head coach Erik Spoelstra says Adebayo “everyday” and that before the Clippers contest he was “caught” in the early part of the day. So far this season, Adebayo is averaging 16.1 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 45.6 percent from the field and 28.7 percent from the field.

“He’s been dealing with it for a couple of days now,” Spoelstra said when asked about Adebayo’s injury, per Anthony Chang of the Miami Herald . “He’s been getting a lot of treatment and it got to him this morning.” We will treat him day by day and reassess him.”

The Heat also missed Bam Adebayo, Jimmy Butler

As the numbers might suggest, Adebayo had shooting problems this season, but he’s still had impressive performances, stuffing the stats even if he’s not dominating the scoring department. His elite defense was sorely missed in the loss to the Clippers, and even his offensive presence as Miami couldn’t get anything going in the second half while Spoelstra praised the opposing defense.

“You have to give them credit,” Spoelstra said. “They increased the pressure. That’s what they do. I mean, there were a couple of possessions at the end of the third, the beginning of the fourth, where we couldn’t even get the offense going.”

Due to the absence of Adebayo and of course Butler, it was Heat’s All-Star hope in Tyler Herro who had to carry the offensive load and had another impressive game finishing with 32 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. However, it would end in defeat and a score of 3-2 on the current road.

Who will replace Bam Adebayo on the Heat if he leaves

If Adebayo couldn’t go to the game, it would be expected that he would Heat rookie Kel’el Ware in the first round which is logged in productive minutes. However, Kevin Love started in the loss to the Clippers, but played just 15 minutes to Ware’s 33 as he had 19 points and 13 rebounds, his first career double-double.

Towards the endI thought we had to have some kind of spark,” Ware said. “So I just started shooting.”

“Kel’el played really well,” Spoelstra continued. “And he had a very good game tonight. … He’s making progress. He seems to learn something new every day.”

Even if Ware and Love try to fill the void if Adebayo is gone, it would still be a big adjustment for the team defensively.

“Defensively, you have a lot of confidence that you can get a stop when you know he’s back there,” Spoelstra said. “We have a lot of coverages and he does them all at an elite level.”

Miami is 20-18, which puts them in seventh place in the Eastern Conference as they play their final six-game road trip against the Lakers.
