The Rams’ Sean McVay talks about evacuating his family before Monday’s Wild Card

As it is Los Angeles Rams prepare to against the Minnesota Vikings in Arizonait’s safe to say that football isn’t the only thing on the team’s mind.

Take, for example, the head coach Sean McVaywho actually had to evacuate his home with his wife and son because of the fire around Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles County. How does it feel to go from leaving your ground positions, dodging a fire that has already caused so much destruction in the area you call home, to coaching a football game? Well, during his final media session before Monday’s Wild Card, McVay explained the situation, noting that once his family was okayhe knew it would be just fine.

“Here’s how it is. As soon as I found out that my wife and little boy are good… you don’t want that to happen, but if it does, those things can be replaced. Fortunately, they kept those things under control, but as soon as I got off the field and because of where they were, I saw them right away. That was all I needed. It felt a lot more real… I don’t want to say that because you don’t want to downplay how important it is and how many people were affected, but when you can physically see it as the smoke was going up yesterday, there were a lot of guys that live nearby that were hitting the house in a different way. As soon as I knew (Sean McVeigh’s wife) Veronica and (Sean McVeigh’s son) Jordan were good, I was good too.”

Asked how he was able to address the team as his players are dealing with so much stress, strife and uncertainty, McVay said the Rams have made it a priority to make sure everyone in the organization, from the players to his coaches and their families, is taken care of. the best they can, as they spared no expense to make sure everyone was safe.

“I think the big thing is that it’s been ongoing (since) yesterday.” The guys took care of priority number one. We tried to help people. I think (Senior Director, Football Operations) Sophie Harlan deserves a lot of credit for being able to help redirect people to different hotel locations that were available based on the amount of people trying to get out of their house. That was priority number one. We were on top of that situation, and then the guys showed up. Fortunately, everybody’s in good shape, and I think everybody’s in good spirits (with) everything.”

On the one hand, it really seems like the Rams have gone out of their way to make sure their players are in the best position to succeed moving forward, from housing to a new practice facility and even extra support for their families. However, how this will affect the game remains to be seen this tragedy could spur Aries on as much as it could stop their momentum, as the Chargers proved so far in their Wildcard Weekend game against the Houston Texans.
