2024-25 NBA Championship Odds: Celtics, Thunder favored

The NBA the season is approaching its middle.

The Boston Celtics became the NBA champion for the 18th time at the end of last season, after throwing out Dallas Mavericks in five games in the 2024 NBA Finals.

But the road to another championship won’t be an easy walk, with plenty of real contenders in both conferences.

Here’s a look at NBA title odds at DraftKings as of January 6.

Let’s check in with Jason McIntyre for some futures from November 12th.

New York Knicks: +1000 (at time of pick)

A few weeks into the season, the Knicks odds mysteriously dropped from +725 to +1000. I have to grab it. The Knicks have two new starters and two guys playing minutes off the bench who weren’t on the team last year. Unlike the Celtics, that’s a lot of new faces. They also still have two key rotation factors to get healthy (Precious Achiuva, Mitchell Robinson). At full strength, this team will be a real problem for the Celtics.

Denver Nuggets: +1100 (at time of pick)

I’m looking for value, and because the Nuggets were +750 but the market is selling them for a slow start, of course I’ll take the team with the best big man in the league. The Nuggets started 0-2, and then Nikola Jokic decided that he would do everything for it because this situation was unacceptable. Jokic now leads the Nuggets in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. But more importantly, Michael Malone seems to be embracing the young guys, and whether they’ll play Peyton Watson and Julian Stravther 20-plus minutes a night, that is great forward sign.

Milwaukee Bucks: +3000 (at time of pick)

I didn’t like the Bucks coming into this season, and they were miserable early. Guard play has been abysmal — they recently started Ryan Rollins and AJ Green at guard; these are guys who barely rotate in the NBA – and injuries are a problem. But if you’re looking for a silver lining, they still have it Giannis Antetokounmpo. A perfect storm scenario: Chris Middleton comes back healthy and close to his old form; Gary Trent Jr. turns into the star everyone thought he would be in high school; Andre Jacksonformer UConn standout, is emerging as every bit the talent he’s projected to be.
